| Western Electric Green LED | |||||||||
| |
These small LEDs, made by Western Electric, were used in the handsets of various phones throughout the 1970s. Western Electric manufacturing excess is alive and well in this device - this LED has thick heavy gold leads and a flanged plastic package designed to fit in a 3mm LED socket. New old stock.

| Monsanto MV1 LED | |||||||||
| |
Monsanto MV1 light emitting diode, new old stock, tested with minor shelf wear. The Monsanto MV1, released in 1969, is considered by most LED collectors to be the world's first production visible light emitting diode. The MV1 is a very dim light source, and is barely visible under normal indoor lighting. It should be noted that up until recently, many collectors falsely identified this device as a Monsanto MV2. This is inaccurate: the MV2 is a green-emitting LED device.

| Fairchild FLV102 LED | |||||||||
| |
Rare early Fairchild FLV102 LED emitters, new old stock. Like many other early diodes, the FLV-102 uses a modified transistor package as the base of its construction. The leadframe and base are identical to a standard T-106 ceramic transistor; the only difference in the package is the use of a diffuse red epoxy blob, through which the LED light exits the device. The light emitted by the FLV-102 ,at a partly 1mcd, is easily drowned out by average incandescent lighting.

| Soviet 3L341V LED | |||||||||
| |
Rare Soviet-made 3L341V LED, green radiation, metal can package, new, unused. The 3L341 appears to be standard AlGaP green, rated at .15 microlumens, 2.8V @ 10mA. These LEDs were manufactured in 1988, prior to the Soviet collapse.

| Motorola TO-92 Package LED | |||||||||
![]() |
This device is a mundane red LED die in a strange enclosure: a standard TO-92 transistor package. Electronics lore states that Motorola made these parts-of-questionable-judgment under contract for use in camera rangefinders.

| Telefunken TLHB5400 5mm Silicon Carbide LED | |||||||||
![]() |
Extremely rare blue 5mm silicon carbide (SiC) LED, made by Telefunken, sky blue epoxy, new unused. Like all SiC LEDs, this is a relatively dim device, suitable for panel indicators and other similar applications. Light output is 2.5mcd, 480nm dominant wavelength.
